NBA 2022-2023: Orlando Magic vs. Brooklyn Nets

Brooklyn Nets (10-11) will try to get it rolling at Barclays Center as they host the young Orlando Magic (5-15) this Monday, 7:40 pm EST.

The Nets are still on and off this season but are now within the play-in tournament spots. They are now sitting in the ninth spot in the Eastern Conference and just one game away from reaching the .500 mark. Meanwhile, the Magic are dropped further in the conference after suffering four straight losses, including the recent 30-point blowout game against the Philadelphia 76ers (11-9).

The Nets are heavily favored again and they might use this opportunity to build their own winning streak to get into a more comfortable record. The Magic have a 68-55 all-time record against the Nets but Brooklyn is dominating the matchup as it won three of their last four meetings, including the 150-108 road win last March 18.

Can We See More Consistent Nets?

The Nets come into this game averaging 111.6 points on the offensive end of the floor which ranks them 18th in the league. They are shooting an outstanding 49.4% as a team from the field for the first spot in the league and they are knocking down 37% of their shots from deep which ranks them 9th in the league. Brooklyn is getting to the charity stripe an average of 21.6 times per game this season which ranks them 25th in the league and they are converting on 80% of those attempts which is good for 11th in the league.

On the defensive end of the floor, Brooklyn is allowing opponents to score 111.9 points per game which ranks them 12th in the league and they are forcing 13.4  turnovers per contest.

In addition, the Nets are making a huge improvement on defense their opponents are only shooting 44.3% which makes them number one in the league but their opponents are having great shooting rates with 38% shooting beyond the arc.

Brooklyn Nets have the talent to be one of the best teams in the NBA. They have top-tier offensive players in Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. Kyrie is a 7-time All-Star and a member of the 50–40–90 club (2021). Durant is a 12-time All-Star and 2-time Finals MVP.

They also have a young Nic Claxton, who is averaging 11.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. The Nets also have a good bench with players like Yuta Watanabe who currently leads the league in 3-point efficiency.

The only problem with the Nets has been their consistency. They have not been able to put it all together and play at a high level for an entire season. They had a disappointing 1-5 record to start the season, gets a few wins, lost on games that they might get easily, and continues to be an average team even with great talents. They didn’t even reach a three-game winning streak this season

However, there is still plenty of time to figure it out. 25% of the season is done, and there are 61 more games left. They won against the Blazers and they might continue the streak against the heavily injured Magic.
